2015 INDEPENDENCE DAY EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA!
Find a list of fun 4th of July events and activities in and around Fairfax County. Parades, music, firecracker 5K and fireworks celebrations!
Pack your blankets and lawn chairs, grab your friends and family, and head to the Workhouse for a fun summer evening to celebrate Independence Day! Concert and fireworks are free, $10 parking fee per vehicle. No outside alcohol is permitted. Fireworks, music and performers are subject to change in schedule without notice.
City of Fairfax Independence Day Celebration::
Enjoy an old-fashioned parade in downtown historic Fairfax on July 4th from 10am to noon. This event is rain or shine.
The World Police and Fire Games Muster begins at 12:30pm at Fire Station #3, 4081 University Drive, Fairfax and will include a Hose Cart and Bucket Brigade, food and beverages. It is anticipated that there will be 140 fire fighters participating. This event runs until 5:00pm.
The evening show and fireworks will be held at Fairfax High School, 3501 Rebel Run, from 7pm to 10:30pm and includes performances by City of Fairfax Band, Almost Journey & 2U. The fireworks show is scheduled for 9:30pm. Rain date: July 5 - for fireworks only.
Falls Church July 4th Celebration:: The city sponsors an annual July 4th Independence Day Celebration at George Mason High School, 7124 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, VA 22046. Music starts at 7 p.m. with a live performance by the Beach Bumz. Fireworks start at 9:20 p.m. Seating is available at Jack Gambill Athletic Fields or the Northern Virginia Graduate Center Parking Lot. In the event of rain, the event is scheduled for July 5 at the same time and location.
The event is free to the public. Blankets and flat-based chairs are allowed for seating on the field. Food and drinks will be sold on site, but alcohol, smoking, glass containers, fireworks, and pets are not permitted.
George Washington's Mount Vernon, An American Celebration:: Saturday, July 4th from 8am to 5pm. An American Celebration includes an inspirational naturalization ceremony for 100 new citizens, daytime fireworks, military reenactments, a special wreathlaying ceremony, free birthday cake for all (while supplies last), and a visit from the “first” first couple, “General and Mrs. Washington.” Enjoy a performance by the National Concert Band's during its "Red, White and Blue" concert.
Great Falls, VA 4th of July Hometown Celebration, Parade and Fireworks:: Great Falls Village Center, Saturday, July 4th. Start your July 4th with the Great Falls 5K Walk/Run at 8am and then view the floats, antique cars, horses and the bike brigade in our old-fashioned 4th of July Parade at 10am! After the parade, enjoy burgers, dogs and snow-cones along with music, field games and festivities on the Village Centre Green with your Great Falls neighbors. At 6pm, the fun starts again when the gates open at Turner Farm Park. Pack up the family and come tailgate with you neighbors. Music, games, contests and food trucks will entertain until the Fireworks Show gets underway just after dusk.
Herndon, VA 4th of July Celebration:: Join the Town of Herndon on Saturday, July 4, 2015 for a family-fun event featuring games, patriotic arts & craft activities, family games, bingo, food, balloon artists and more.
Events take place in Bready Park at the Herndon Community Center, 814 Ferndale Ave.
Schedule of Events:
7:00 pm - Games, bingo and children's arts & crafts begin - all for free! Festival foods will be available for sale.
7:15 pm - E3 Band performs. E3 is a uniquely entertaining cover band. They play classic R&B, rock, reggae, funk, and todays chart toppers.
9:30 pm - Our fabulous fireworks show is choreographed to music and begins at dark, approximately.
McLean, VA 4th of July Fireworks Celebration:: Saturday, July 4 (Rain date: July 5)
Grounds open at 8 p.m. Shuttles begin running at 7:30pm Free Admission Bring a blanket. Picnic style seating.

Reston Town Center Firecracker 5K:: Saturday, July 4th at 8am, Reston Town Center (Potomac River Running Store). Kick off your 4th of July with a 5k bang! Join us for the 6th annual Firecracker 5K for the Troops presented by Leidos! This is a wonderful opportunity to give thanks and show your support to our local military members and their families. Enjoy live music and showing off your Patriotism by waving American flags! Come out and root for your favorite military branch in the “Battle of the Branches” competition! Which Military branch runs the Metro area? Potomac River Running will make a donation on behalf of the branch with the most runners registered for the Firecracker 5K for the Troops presented by Leidos to the USO Metro.
Reston, VA Lake Fairfax Park Fireworks, Food and Family Fun:: Come join in the fun at Lake Fairfax Park and celebrate Independence Day on July 4, 2015. Enjoy picnicking, live music from 4 to 8 p.m., as well as food vendors, and other activities. Get there early to enjoy the Water Mine Family Swimming Hole water park. Admission to Lake Fairfax Park is free but a suggested donation of $5 a car to the Fairfax County Park Foundation helps defray the costs of the fireworks, park staff and site improvements. Lake Fairfax Park is located at1400 Lake Fairfax Drive in Reston, VA. For more information call 703-471-5414.
Vienna, VA Red, White and Blue on the Green:: Saturday, July 4 from 12pm to 5pm. The Parks and Recreation Department presents live musical performances by Difficult Run, as well as the Vienna Community Band. In addition to the musical festivities, guests can view an antique car show, participate in the Optimist 50/50 raffle, and enjoy tasty American Legion BBQ and drinks generously provided by the American Legion. Fun for children includes moon bounces and a kids pie eating contest.
The Town of Vienna is pleased to team up with the Vienna Inn for its "Inaugural Vienna Inn Chili Dog Eating Contest." A $250 grand prize package will be awarded by local judges to whomever can consume the most chili dogs in 15 minutes. Contestants may register at the Vienna Community Center or the Vienna Inn for a fee of $20. You must be 18 years or older to enter the contest.
Washington, DC A Capitol Fourth Concert:: Saturday, July 4th from 8pm to 9:30pm on the West Lawn of the United States Capitol. Celebrating 35 spectacular years on the air, A Capitol Fourth will kick off the country’s 239th birthday with an all-star musical extravaganza that puts viewers front and center for the greatest display of fireworks anywhere in the nation. America’s favorite Independence Day celebration is broadcast live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, before a concert audience of hundreds of thousands, millions more at home, and our troops watching around the world on the American Forces Network. Hosted by Bradley Whitford, this year's lineup includes Barry Manilow, Alabama, Nicole Scherzinger, Hunter Hayes, Meghan Linsey, KC and the Sunshine Band, Lang Lang, National Symphony Orchestra, The U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own" and many more!
