 If you see someone unsheltered please call 703-691-2131. Fairfax County's  hypothermia prevention program operates throughout the county during the winter to provide safe, warm space for homeless individuals at night. If you see someone at night who is unsheltered and you think could be at risk of hypothermia, call the county’s non-emergency phone line at 703-691-2131, TTY 711.                        

 Become an Election Officer!  Fairfax County needs 2,300+ election officers countywide for the March 1 Primary. Below are areas where they have the highest need:

  • Along Route 1, North of Hybla Valley
  • Herndon/Reston
  • McLean
  • Merrifield area/Vienna
  • Centreville (Western Side)
  • Falls Church

There is also a large need for bilingual speakers, including Spanish, Korean and Vietnamese speakers. Korean/Vietnamese speakers are especially needed in the Mason District.

Central Absentee Precinct (CAP) is in need of officers to assist with processing absentee ballots. Half-day shifts are available.

As an Election Officer, you will set up voting equipment, check photo IDs and check names on the electronic poll book, provide assistance and instructions in using the voting machines, tabulate the results at the close of the polls. Training will be provided.

NARFE:: Interested in joining NARFE (National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association)? NARFE Fairfax Chapter 737 meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month except for July and August, at the American Legion Hall at 3939 Oak Street, Fairfax, VA.  They meet at 11:30am for the social hour, with lunch served at 12:30 pm. Each month they have interesting programs and different speakers.

Stuff The Bus 2016:: Fairfax County is promoting its annual "Stuff the Bus: Helping Fairfax Families" program at 14 locations from Jan. 16 to Feb. 15, 2016. This collaborative program, now in its sixth year, is a partnership among Fairfax County Government, local grocery stores and nonprofits to restock the shelves of local food pantries.
Each week a Fastran bus staffed by MV Transportation personnel will park at a different location and collect food donations. The campaign kicks off Jan. 16, 2016, the weekend leading up to the Martin Luther King Day of Service, and will run each weekend until President’s Day, Feb. 15, 2016. 
All donation hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
