Special Events in May

ROCK THE BLOCK! Concert series returns to Fairfax City on May 22nd with Gonzo's Nose at Old Town Square in the heart of downtown Fairfax! Enjoy great music, food, beer garden, games and more from 6pm to 9pm. FREE Admission! This event will take place the forth Friday of each month during the summer (
June 26, July 24, August 28, September 25 ).

 Town of Quantico Memorial Day Weekend Concert and Fireworks! The town of Quantico will be hosting its 2nd Annual Memorial Day Weekend Fireworks Show and Music Concert on Saturday May 23rd from 7pm to 10pm. This event is FREE and open to the public. This event is being held in honor of the men and women who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
The fireworks show will be preceded by a live music concert starting at 7:00 pm with the fireworks display starting at 9:15 pm.
This event will be held at the town’s recently renovated Raftelis Potomac River Park at 408 River Road Quantico Virginia 22134.
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

ViVa! Vienna!  May 23rd - May 25th,  located in the heart of historic Vienna, Virginia!  A family and community oriented celebration of Memorial Day and the greater Vienna Community spirit.
Amusement rides, food, crafts, vendors and entertainment - fun for all ages! 100% of proceeds go to charitable, community and humanitarian organizations.

Ride of the Patriots May 24th from 6:30am to 9:30am in Fairfax City! 
This ride honors military and public safety personnel and is a staging area for Rolling Thunder, a national motorcycle event.
The parade will step off at 7:30 a.m. on eastbound Fairfax Boulevard from Capt. Pell’s Crab House near Plantation Parkway and will end at Patriot Harley-Davidson, 9739 Fairfax Boulevard.  Opening ceremonies begin at 8 a.m. at Patriot Harley-Davidson. Beginning at 9 a.m., motorcycle riders will depart under police escort for the Pentagon.  
Bleachers will be set up for spectators. Veterans groups will sell food and drinks on the route.  Parking is available at Fairfax High School and the Fairfax Circle shopping center.  For information, visit or call 703-352-5400.

Strawberry Jubilee at Great Country Farms! Two Weekends of Strawberry Festival FunMay 23, 24, 30 & 31, 2015. To celebrate the royal strawberry, our Jubilee is packed with live music, farm contests, wagon rides, family games and great food.

National Memorial Day Observance Monday, May 25, 2015 11:00 AM.
The annual National Memorial Day Observance to honor America’s fallen military service members is scheduled for Monday, May 25 at Arlington National Cemetery.


The U.S. Army Military District of Washington will conduct a Presidential Armed Forces Full Honor Wreath-Laying Ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, to be followed by an observance program hosted by the Department of Defense in Arlington’s Memorial Amphitheater. A prelude by the United States Marine Band will begin in the amphitheater at 10:30 a.m.


Both the wreath-laying ceremony and the observance program are free and open to the general public.  No tickets are needed to attend these events.  Space is limited to standing room only for the wreath-laying ceremony and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis in the amphitheater.  Attendees are encouraged to be at the Tomb of the Unknowns or seated in the amphitheater by 9:30 a.m.


Free parking is available for vehicles in the Arlington National Cemetery Welcome Center’s parking lot from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.  A free shuttle service will provide transportation to the Memorial Amphitheater beginning at 8 a.m.  Walking to the amphitheater is prohibited.  After the observance, shuttles will provide transportation back to the Welcome Center until 2 p.m.

City of Alexandria to Host 38th Annual Memorial Day Jazz Festival 

The City of Alexandria invites the public to the 38th Annual Memorial Day Jazz Festival on Monday, May 25, beginning at 1 p.m. at Waterfront Park, 1A Prince St.  David Muse, WPFW Radio Jazz Show host, will emcee the program. Admission is free.

The Jazz Festival will feature a variety of talented musicians and diverse styles of jazz throughout the day. Click here for more details.

35th Annual Herndon Festival May 28-31, 2015 in historic Downtown Herndon, VA. Throughout the four-day event, there will be two fireworks displays, an arts and craft show, business expo, 10K/5K races and fitness expo, and a Kids’ Alley where children can have a hands-on art experience. Two must sees this year, check out the Roller Derby demo on Thursday at 7pm and the Wind Art Display

on Saturday.
